An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:
  1. We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account.
  2. We also offer overdraft protection plans, such as a link to your Platinum Visa or a checking or savings account, which may be less expensive than our standard overdraft practices. To learn more, ask us about these plans.

This notice explains our standard overdraft practices.

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transaction unless you ask us to (see below):

  • ATM transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.

If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if First Financial Credit Union pays my overdraft?

Under our standard overdraft practices, the following will apply:

  • Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) -- we will charge you a fee of up to $35 each time we pay an overdraft.
  • However, we will not charge you an NSF fee more than 3 times per account per day (the maximum total NSF fee per account per day is $105 (3 x $35)).

What if I want First Financial Credit Union to authorize and pay overdrafts on my ATM and everyday debit card transactions?

If you also want us to authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM and everyday debit card transactions:

  1. Log into Online Banking
  2. Click on Card eServices

Simple. Secure. Smart.

See below for more details.
Receive an enhanced level of security. When you use your card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip creates a unique, one-time use code for each transaction to be authenticated so it’s virtually impossible to replicate in a counterfeit card.

Check out with ease. Simply insert your card in a chip-activated terminal, follow the prompts and remove your card when the transaction is complete.

Enjoy global acceptance. More places than ever now accept chip cards. Whether you check out using chip technology or swipe your card, you can pay with confidence worldwide.
Answers to questions about chip technology

Q: What is a chip card?

A: First Financial Visa Debit Cards now feature built-in chip technology. You’ll enjoy global acceptance plus an enhanced level of security.

Q: How does chip technology protect my information?

A: When you use your card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip generates a one-time use code. This code helps reduce in-store fraud.

Q: Where can I use a chip card?

A: You can use your card at millions of places that accept Visa Debit Cards, at home and around the world.

Q: Can I still swipe my card to pay?

A: Yes. If a merchant is not yet chip-activated, you can continue to swipe your card and enter your PIN. Or select CREDIT and sign for your purchase, if necessary.

Q: Does my chip card work at the ATM?

A: Yes. You can still use your card to get cash, check your balance and more. Be sure to insert the chip end of your card into the ATM with the chip facing up. Your card will remain in the ATM until your transaction is complete.

Q: Will I have to pay any fees to use a chip card?

A: No. There are no additional fees to use a chip card.
