Junior Checking Frequently Asked Questions

The account can only be opened in-person by visiting your local branch with:

  • Your child (ages 13-17)—who must have a First Financial membership with a Junior Savers account
  • Valid government-issued IDs for both the adult and child (or school ID)
  • Social Security Numbers for both
  • Online and Mobile Banking must be established at account opening and the Visa Debit card must be ordered

This is a special account designed for members ages 13-17 and is a smart and secure way to learn real-world money management skills. 

No. This account does not have Overdraft services (nor can these services be linked from the adult joint owner’s account).

The Junior Checking account will automatically convert to free Convenience Checking and they will become the sole owner of the account. You will need to complete a Relinquish Form to be removed as the joint owner.

As the joint owner on your child's account, you retain full access and control.

  • Monitor Account Activity—through Online and Mobile Banking
  • Deposit and withdraw funds—you can perform these transactions and help with setting up recurring transfers (from your First Financial account)
  • Provide financial guidance and oversight—to help your child make smart financial decisions
  • Legal responsibility—as the joint owner you are financially responsible for account activity

To open this account, the “junior” must be 13-17 years of age and have a parent/grandparent/legal guardian as the joint account owner. The adult joint account owner must have an established First Financial account and must be in good standing. The Junior Checking account can only be established in-person at a branch by the adult joint owner with the “junior”. The “junior” member must have their own First Financial membership with a Junior Saving account at time of account opening.

A Junior Checking Account is a checking account for minors between the ages of 13-17 years of age, with a Junior Savings Account. An adult joint owner (parent/grandparent/legal guardian), who meets First Financial Credit Union’s (FFCU) membership eligibility must have an established membership in good standing. The Junior Checking Account will convert to a Convenience Checking Account when the junior member reaches the age of 18. The minimum deposit required to open this Account is $25. Visa Debit card daily limit is $600. Other terms, conditions, restrictions may apply. Call for complete information.
