A memorable vacation doesn’t have to involve roaming far from home. Sometimes, it’s just as fun (and more economical) to discover what’s in store locally. Here are some staycation ideas that’ll spark novelty and make memories.

 

• Play “tourist.” Explore nearby spots you’ve been meaning to visit—museums, local parks, landmarks, bed-and-breakfasts, etc. Soak in history, savor new cuisine, plan outdoor activities, and enjoy nearby live entertainment (plays, concerts, etc.).
• Adopt a theme to keep things fresh. One day you can unwind surfside with your favorite book, another, enjoy an at-home “film festival” watching flicks you wouldn’t normally with new, exotic snacking options. Try a self-care spa day at home or be pampered by pros at a neighboring hotel/resort.
• Pick up a new craft/hobby. When you’re out-of-office, you have the freedom to pursue pastimes that have been on your “someday” list—ceramics, new languages, playing an instrument, gardening, crocheting, etc. You may end up discovering a new, lifelong passion!
